Ranni's former biological body was tall and redheaded, but after she killed her flesh and kept her spirit alive, she maintains a body through possession of a life-size humanoid doll. The doll is feminine presenting, with long blue hair and pale blue skin, along with four arms. Her right eye is open, showing a glowing blue iris, and her left eye is closed -- from the left side of her face emerges the shape of her spirit, like two conjoined faces, like her spirit doesn't fully fit within the doll body. The doll body is made from a porcelain outer shell and a metal internal framework, and due to the age of the body, its external covering is crumbling away in parts to reveal the metal underneath.

She wears long, plain robes in brown and grey, with a furred cloak. Of particular note is her absolutely massive witch hat.

Ranni is largely cold and commanding, arrogant, and seemingly uncaring. She presents herself as being very detached, ordering everybody around to achieve her goals. Despite her chilly exterior, though, Ranni deeply treasures the few connections she has, though she puts on an appearance of impassiveness when those connections are lost to her.

Her very goal -- to demolish the corrupt existing ruling order, and install herself as the new god and order -- betrays a deep affection and love for the lands she lives in. Her goal essentially sacrifices herself to an unknown fate beyond the stars, all so that the people of the Lands Between can live without corrupt tyranny.

CANON POINT ╳ any time in the Elden Ring timeline

Ranni was born to Elden Lord Radagon and Queen Rennala of Caria, whose marriages was made as an alliance between the opposing forces of the Golden Order (who served the outer god, the Greater Will) and the Carian nobles (who pulled magic from the cosmos). However, after Radagon left Rennala without warning to become King Consort of Queen Marika, Rennala lost her mind and her status as a champion. Witnessing Radagon's betrayal and losing faith in the Golden Order, Ranni, despite being a demigod, cast aside her Great Rune.

Discovering that the Golden Order's immortality was flawed, she plotted the Night of the Black Knives, in which Marika's son, the hero Godwyn the Golden, was killed by assassins wielding the stolen Rune of Death, also known as Destined Death, that Marika had removed from the Elden Ring. This distorted him into the undead Prince of Death, still bound by immortality, but without a soul. Ranni used the other half of the stolen rune to kill her physical body and escape the control of the Greater Will, binding her soul to a doll modeled after her mentor, the ice witch Renna. Soon after, Marika attempted to destroy the Elden Ring, and a devastating war, the Shattering, ensued.

In secret, Ranni hid away and waited out the war, forming allies where she could, and plotting to carry out her own destiny: to do away with the Greater Will and become a god herself, a better god for the people.

TL;DR: demigod princess kills her body to become a spirit and in doing so kills the spirit of a fellow demigod which kicks off a massive war, she possesses a life-size doll modeled after a snow witch, and carries out a plan where she will become the new god to get rid of the current corrupt system
